Uncanny Spires
Uncanny Spires is an attempt to visualize architecture as a co-production of multiple authors, human and non-human. By imagining how water, time, deposition, animals, and plants affect the building, this project reinforces that humans play a part in the ecology, instead of controlling it. Uncanny Spires posits that non-humans will propagate, interact, and integrate with or without oversight.
By mimicking the city skyline's water towers, the building expresses qualities that are both familiar and strange, further highlighting humanity's attempted separation from existing ecology. The building is designed to be understood as either a natural artifact eroding over time or a man-made creation, overtaken and repurposed by non-humans.
